Colourway: Magic Ribbon

This colourway was first introduced in my 2019 Scottish Myth & Folklore Advent Set as Day 24.

Magic Ribbon was the only solid colour in the set and it stands out, in this aspect and because of its bold colour. This is exactly as I wanted. For me this is the distinctive red my mind conjures in any fairy-tale where red is featured, be it in shoes, apples, lips as red as blood or capes.  Concerning this set in particular, the colour comes in the form of a magic ribbon found in the tale of ‘Finlay and the Giants’ found in Wonder Tales From Scottish Myth and Legend by Donald A. Mackenzie, Forgotten Books.  It is a tale of giants, faithful dogs, magic swords and enchanted sons.

I am also quite fond of the version of ‘The Three Red Hats’ tale which can be found in Highland Folk Tales by Bob Pegg that features three magic red caps that enable the wearers to travel to faraway places in a night. The tale can be found in other books as well, but within this collection in particular, it is a good example of an old folktale being altered to fit within the current time the tale is told.

All wool is hand dyed in single or small batches then washed and dried ready to be knit up into your own unique creation.

1 x 100g hank of Choufunga: Superwash Merino sock weight wool – 75% merino wool and 25% nylon for hand or machine knitting. Beautifully soft merino with nylon for a bit of extra stretch and strength.

Each 100g hank is about 465 yards / 425 meters.

Suitable for machine washing but hand washing is preferable. Dry flat.

While I have tried to capture the colours as best I can, please be aware colours may vary from those shown here.

Due to the nature of hand dyeing, colour saturation and placement may vary between different skeins of the same colourway. If you are using more than one to skein to complete your project I recommend alternating between the skeins for the best overall colour matching.

Ever had a wash load turn pink because of one tiny red sock? Although all wool has been washed thoroughly after dyeing, it is advisable to wash your creations separately the first time, in case any residual dye remains. The vibrancy of your wool will not be affected in the rare event that there is any run off. I don't expect the dyes to run, but I make mention out of caution as I would hate for my wool to be the 'red sock'!
